Our ethos at Jam ‘n’ Vegan is to encourage our community to make more plant-based and vegan choices, whether you’re a newbie, plant-based part-timer or a vegan veteran, small steps help! When it comes to eating vegan, it can be very overwhelming! So we’re here with 5 easy vegan swaps to help make eating vegan easier.
Milk
There are so many amazing options for plant-based milk these days, from oat, to almond, hazelnut, rice, coconut or even potato! This is probably the easiest swap you can do. Plant-based milk is pretty accessible in terms of availability, most shops offer at least one plant-based alternative to cows milk. We recommend Oatly or Alpro, great for your morning cup of tea or bowl of cereal and we love to use them for cooking too!
Chocolate
For all those with a sweet tooth, don’t worry, there are plenty of delicious alternatives to milk chocolate. Dark chocolate is a great milk chocolate alternative, and a rich source of antioxidants. Or you can try a vegan milk chocolate alternative. Our favourite is LoveRaw, especially their CRE&M WAFERS.
Meat
The fake meat industry has grown exponentially over the past couple of years and these days we are spoilt for choice, from plant-based sausages, to fake chicken to vegan bacon. We recommend Heura Mediterranean Chunks and THIS Isn’t Chicken Pieces.
Cheese
Cheese, cheese, cheese. Who doesn’t love cheese? There are lots of dairy-free alternatives out there, but I’m sure we won’t be the first to say it’s a little hit or miss when it comes to the cheese game. There are so many different brands, from supermarket-own alternatives to more locally-crafted cheese companies, it can be hard to know where to start. We recommend Applewood and Mexicana which you can find in most supermarkets.
Scrambled eggs
Swap your scrambled eggs for scrambled tofu with the addition of black salt to make it egg-stra eggy tasting. No chickens harmed in the process, result!
